A classic comfort dish made allergy-friendly — Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Salisbury Steak features juicy ground beef patties smothered in a rich, savoury mushroom-onion gravy that’s entirely gluten and dairy-free.
Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 25 minutes Total Time: 40 minutes Servings: 4
Ingredients
450g lean minced beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
30g gluten-free breadcrumbs (or crushed gluten-free crackers)
1 tbsp coconut aminos (or gluten-free Worcestershire sauce)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
½ tsp sea salt
¼ tsp black pepper
2 tbsp olive oil
100g mushrooms, sliced
375ml gluten-free beef stock
1 tbsp cornflour mixed with 2 tbsp cold water
Directions
In a bowl, combine minced beef, onion, breadcrumbs, coconut aminos, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
Shape into 4 oval patties.
Heat olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat and brown patties on both sides (about 3–4 minutes each). Remove and set aside.
In the same pan, add mushrooms and cook until softened.

Pour in the beef stock, scraping up any browned bits.
Stir in the cornflour slurry, then return the patties to the pan. Simmer until the gravy thickens and the meat is cooked through (about 10 minutes).
Serve with mashed potatoes or steamed veg for a complete meal. Leftovers keep beautifully in the fridge for up to three days — and the flavours get even richer by the next day.

What Makes This Gluten Free Dairy Free Salisbury Steak Special
Unlike traditional Salisbury steak made with flour and butter, this gluten- and dairy-free version swaps in cornflour for thickening and olive oil for richness. The result is the same silky, satisfying gravy — but completely allergy-friendly. Each bite offers that nostalgic comfort of home cooking without compromise. It’s the perfect example of how hearty, old-fashioned dishes can still fit beautifully into modern gluten- and dairy-free lifestyles.
Serving Suggestions
For a cosy family dinner, serve this Salisbury steak with creamy mashed potatoes made using dairy-free butter or oat milk. It’s also lovely over fluffy rice or alongside roasted carrots and green beans for a balanced, colourful plate. If you’re meal prepping, pair it with steamed broccoli or quinoa — the gravy keeps everything moist and flavourful, even after reheating.
Storage & Reheating
Leftovers store well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days, and the flavours deepen overnight. To reheat, warm gently on the hob or in the microwave with a splash of stock or water to loosen the gravy. You can even freeze the cooked patties and sauce together for up to a month — a perfect quick dinner for busy evenings.

Optional Tips & Variations
Serve with mashed potatoes or cauliflower mash.
Add caramelised onions for a sweeter depth.
Use turkey mince for a leaner version.
